Challenge: 50 gifts for babies in 10 days. Odaboro Foundation will be collecting gifts, big or small, for Cincinnati Children's Hospital NICU babies for the next 10 days. Remember there are plenty of tiny babies and new moms that may be sleeping in the NICU for days, weeks or months... Email me for drop off locations or phone number. I'll make the deliver the night of Dec 24th. If wrapping please use either a gift bag or attach a description so that we can give appropriate gifts to babies, i.e. boy, girl, mom, preemie, etc. Things that you'd give at a baby shower, or for a friend that's a new mom for Christmas. Let's get it done!

![]() During this trip, we were privledged to work in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Tamale Teaching Hospital in Tamale, Ghana where we met pediatrician, Dr. Hasan Mumin, who leads the medical staff in the NICU. Dr. Mumin was trained in Turkey and is currently responsible for the care of the infants in the NICU and the training of medical staff. We rounded with him and his staff each morning during our stay. Half of the NICU supplies donated went to Tamale Teaching Hospital which included diapers, intravenous tubing and supplies, infant baths, respiratory equipment and a pulse oximeter machine (which follows oxygen levels in a baby to know if additional oxygen is needed). ******************************************************************************************************************* After all the donating, collecting, moving and shipping was done, the container arrived safely in Ghana for our arrival this January. The estimated $130,000 in medical supplies and equipment was distributed to the Ghana Health Service with plans for use at Ridge Regional Hospital in Accra and Tamale Teaching Hospital in Tamale. We would like to thank the physicans and administrators who made this happen, including Dr. Emmanuel Srofenyoh and Dr. Ken Sagoe as well as those at the Ghana Health Service administrators' office, notably Yaw Brobbey and Bernard Asamany. We hope that this is the beginning of multiple containers that will be shipped to Ghana in the years to come. In fact, we have already started collecting for the next container. If you have equipment or know a hospital that would like to particpate, please contact us at odaboro@gmail.com ![]() Our first container has been packed and is ready to go to port in Virginia where it will be sent by ship to Ghana. Amelia, OH 45102 ![]() Lots of babies during rainy season in Ghana. Lots of babies in the community and lots of babies in the hospital. This made for a difficult time educating staff but what better to educate on than saving babies lives. This visit we were able to work with Kybele to educate 25 nurses and midwives. We took a load of medical supplies (some of which were delayed a bit) but eventually delivered to the NICU, OR and Labor Ward. Thanks to everyone who helped us get there. Thanks for all the great stuff over the past few months. Keep it coming. I have medical supplies coming in from various units in several hospitals. But I wanted to update everyone on this months "campaign". I'm going to be asking everyone to clean out their closets.
On my last trip to Ghana we worked mostly in the Labor and Delivery and NICU at the largest hospitals. However, we did take a couple of short breaks to travel to the remote areas to see how the people there struggled with medical needs. A few of the midwives that travelled with us took along toys. They passed out these toys in the areas where most children only wear the same article of clothing nearly every day. Whether this is a pair of shorts or just poorly fitted underwear. The children there played with makeshift toys made from sticks, stones and discarded rubber. They loved the few toys that were able to be handed out. Some where also given to children in the hospital, which brought a lot of joy to all faces. Please take this opportunity to help us collect a few more good condition toys to hand out on our next trip. If you don't have babies or kids, check with your brothers and sisters; I'm sure they'd love your help cleaning out a closet or two to make way for this year's Christmas. You can make this your Christmas gift to your friends and family (helping them clean) and your gift to a charity (donating a few used toys to a child in need). Please collect gently used baby and childrens' toys. Manual items are best. We will be setting up collection times and locations over the coming month. If you have a large collection, please contact us for a pick up, or feel free to send them by mail to our address (as noted on our home page and logo). Thanks for your help.
