Thanks for all the great stuff over the past few months. Keep it coming. I have medical supplies coming in from various units in several hospitals. But I wanted to update everyone on this months "campaign". I'm going to be asking everyone to clean out their closets.
On my last trip to Ghana we worked mostly in the Labor and Delivery and NICU at the largest hospitals. However, we did take a couple of short breaks to travel to the remote areas to see how the people there struggled with medical needs. A few of the midwives that travelled with us took along toys. They passed out these toys in the areas where most children only wear the same article of clothing nearly every day. Whether this is a pair of shorts or just poorly fitted underwear. The children there played with makeshift toys made from sticks, stones and discarded rubber. They loved the few toys that were able to be handed out. Some where also given to children in the hospital, which brought a lot of joy to all faces.
Please take this opportunity to help us collect a few more good condition toys to hand out on our next trip. If you don't have babies or kids, check with your brothers and sisters; I'm sure they'd love your help cleaning out a closet or two to make way for this year's Christmas. You can make this your Christmas gift to your friends and family (helping them clean) and your gift to a charity (donating a few used toys to a child in need).
Please collect gently used baby and childrens' toys. Manual items are best. We will be setting up collection times and locations over the coming month. If you have a large collection, please contact us for a pick up, or feel free to send them by mail to our address (as noted on our home page and logo).
Thanks for your help.
